Good news: most conservatories don\u2019t need planning permission
Under Permitted Development rights, you can build a conservatory without planning permission if it meets certain conditions.
Permitted Development Rules
- \u2022 No more than 50% of garden area covered by extensions
- \u2022 Single storey only
- \u2022 Maximum height 4m (3m if within 2m of boundary)
- \u2022 Does not extend beyond the rear wall by more than 3m (semi/terrace) or 4m (detached)
- \u2022 Not in front of the house
- \u2022 Materials similar to existing house
When You DO Need Permission
- \u2022 Listed building \u2014 always needs consent
- \u2022 Conservation area \u2014 restrictions apply
- \u2022 Exceeds permitted development limits
- \u2022 Flat or maisonette
